IML Week 2

Well, last week was so promising! Seven days of training in a row and then week 2 starts and I'm checking out. Oh wells.

Monday
Today was my rest day and it felt good to do so. Worked at night.

Tuesday
Headed down to the BAC to swim outside. It was actually really nice out, sunny-ish. Got a bit of a tan and kicked ass on the swim workout. I can tell I am getting stronger and faster. Gaze longingly over at the masters class and wonder if I should join, even tho I know that my heart supposedly belongs to the Temescal Masters....if I ever make it over there to try it out. Worked at night.

Wednesday
Meant to run (because I have SERIOUSLY been neglecting it) but I woke up too late and then had to rush around to go to jury duty. Spent the afternoon at the court house. Got dismissed til next week. Rode my bike home in semi-rain. Jury duty really sapped my energy because all I wanted to do was lay on my couch and watch a movie with the heat cranking and eat a giant bowl of food.

Thursday
Met Mike Kyle over in Livermore again. We decided to redo the route that we did on Sunday (and didn't quite make 45 miles on). The 45 minute or so climb wasn't bad at all. Especially since I had Mike at my side and we were chatting all the way up. We decided to roll down the other side and see how far we could get. Rumor has it the road goes all the way into San Jose. We got about 18 miles out and at my urging we turned around. It was really beautiful but I was kinda bored. I mean, it was taking FOR. EVER. to reach 20 miles and I just couldn't take it anymore. In hindsight I was probably just getting tired. So we turned around and dreaded the climb back to the summit but get this. The road was so weird. When we were descending I could tell that it was a gently, soft slope but little did I know that we were actually descending on an uphil because when we turned around to go back up hill, we were actually going faster up hill than when were going down hill? Get it?

I know. It's confusing. But the short of it is, when we turned around to climb back to the summit we were descending yet gaining altitude. Yeah. I have no effing idea how that worked out either. Alls I know is IT WAS AWESOME! It took us like 2.5 hours of riding to the turn around and seriously about 1 hour hour to get back. The best part was when we got off Mines Road we busted out a 20mph average because we wanted to get back to the Waffle House before it closed at 3pm! Waffles were had by all with 15 minutes to spare. (and I am not eating wheat...except that one time!)

Vegged out the rest of the night.

Friday
Hit the pool at the BAC and it. was. cold. Kicked out a pretty good swim through bouts of sunshine and rain, but nearly turned into a pillar of ice when I got out of the pool. Went to work but left early because of the early morning team workout the next day.

Saturday
Went to San Ramon to meet with the team and have a talk on nutrition. I was late. Oops. For some reason I thought it started at 8:45a and it really started at 8:30a. Afterwards, we hopped in the pool and was in a lane with Neil/Neal again. He swims a bit faster than me so it was good, in a way, because it pushed me out of my comfort zone. At about an hour and 15 minutes I had to get out and get ready to go to work.

Sunday
Well, I should've run. But it was gross and raining so intead I half-heartedly cleaned my house and then walked to Bi-Rite to buy an expensive chicken, of which I roasted with onions, fennel and fingerling potatoes. Yum!

I feel bad that I took 3 days off this week... Goals for next week! Get back to spin class with M2, check out the Temescal masters class, and NOT get picked for jury duty.

Workout Summary
Swim - 3 hours 30 minutes
Bike - 3 hours
Run - 0
Total - 6 hours and 30 minutes

My Unofficial Official Week 1

Balls to the wall, man. That was my motto this week as I hit the training calendar like nobody's business. Like it was going out of style. Like flies on, er...never mind. Even tho I worked out about 9 hours this week and burnt more than 4,000 calories I was in a super sad mood. Crying. at. everything. About half way through the week I realized I was PMS-ing, which was a bummer because my body is now doing that every. three. weeks. Sigh. WTF!

Monday
I was still kinda sick, or rather, experiencing only mild congestion but could tell my lung capacity was not 100%. But even still, I woke up super early and swam at my ghetto pool in the Mission. I just really hate those people in the fast lane. I know I say this everytime but, dude...I am swimming non-stop for at least 30 minutes. Do not pass me and then cut me off at the wall and then stop! Yes, I see you can swim faster than me for only 50 yards...have you not noticed I am swimming longer than you and more consistantly than you? Sigh.

Then I went to therapy and cried my eyes out for two hours (yes, I do back to back sessions).

Then I went back to the Mission and met Misty at Black n' Blue to watch her get her bad ass tattoo.

Then I went to work and was so tired I thought I would die.

Tuesday
Drove to Chrissy Field and ran. Not very successfully tho. I am shirking my fitness because I was supposed to run longer than I did but I just couldn't. I pretended it was my lung capacity. Maybe it was. But more likely it was just me being lazy. A hot guy asked me the time. He had that gene, tho, that some guys have where they have to take their shirt off no matter how "hot" it is. And by hot I mean cold. Dude, it was like 50 degrees out...do you really need to take your shirt off? Sigh.

Went to work by bike.

Wednesday
Set my spin gear up and called my cousin. I did my entire workout, plus an additional 30 minutes while talking (bitching) to her on the phone. It was awesome and made the time go by so fast! Half the time I was breathing so hard I couldn't tell my stories! I felt better. Went to work and had a talk with a co-worker that made me feel better about things. Felt momentarily great.

Went to work by bike.

Thursday
Even tho it is a drag sometimes to work until midnight, I am currently loving that I get to sleep in, putter around and then swim or do some other workout thing mid-morning. So, I drove down to Burlingame to swim at my long lost outdoor pool. It was a bit overcast and as soon as I stepped out onto the deck it started pouring. Did my 30 minute swim maker where I swam like, a bazillion yards or something. My 100 yard pace ended up being 2:02 which is horribly, horribly slow. But I did it to my tempo trainer set to 1:25 (and I really have no idea what that means) so it was kinda slow and relaxed. My lungs were still kinda "full" of crap. Lot's of spitting. Ew. However, when I sent my marker results into Coach Nancy she said that in March last year I was swimming a 2:02. That means that even tho I haven't trained the last 3 months, gained a lot of weight and was currently sick, I am a month ahead of last year. Yay!

Went to work by bike.

Friday
Awesome talk with co-worker evaporated and my low-self-esteem, worthlessness and everything else came back. Cried for approximately one hour on my trainer in my kitchen while sing-screaming metal songs at a really high volume.

Went to work by bike.

Saturday
Woke up early-ish and drove to IVC in Novato for a team swim/run workout. Had fun in the pool with Judy and Neal/Neil in my lane. We had to do some laps on an interval and had to use our 100 yard time to figure stuff out. I asked Judy and Neal/Neil what their 100 swim time was and they were like oh, 1:45 or 1:30. I told Judy to shut up. Hahaha. When I told her I was a 2:02 she told me, no way. Anyways, I was keeping up with them at any rate. I was a beautiful, sunny warm-ish day. I had to skip out after the swim to go to work. Felt guilty all the way back to the city.

Was supposed to go out that night but was so angry. at. everything that the thought of me out in public was just too horrific, so I opted to go to Whole Foods (and cursed out / screamed at no less than 8 people on the way there) for potatoes and coconut milk ice cream and then I went home and (did something illegal...oh wait we're in CA so it's not illegal) and ate them while watching really bad TV on my laptop in bed with my heated mattress pad.

Sunday
Got up early and headed out to Livermore to meet with Mike Kyle and others for a 3 hour and/or 45 mile ride with hills. I was kinda scared that this was going to be my first ride outside since November and I was going to be climbing a giant, neverending hill with my, you know, diminished lung capacity et. al. Plus it was cold. But I got to try out my new long tri bike pants with removable butt cushion (at some point I wished it wasn't removable as it was everywhere but on my butt....but then was glad it was removable when walking into Waffle House after our ride and ripped it outta my pants).

The ride wasn't that bad! And Mike is just as easy as me to be convinced to turn around! So we only rode 28 miles and 2 hours with an hour long climb in there somewhere. Had food at Waffle House and then I drove back to the city (while feeling guilty for not riding 3 hours) in a massive coma where I honestly just wanted to close my eyes and sleep forever...except I was driving on 580 at 70 mph.

Went home, showered, took a nap to Pans Labyrinth, woke up, made an awesome dinner, chowed the remainder of my coconut milk ice cream and then fell alseep 2 hours later.

Workout Totals
Swim - 3 hours, 40 minutes
Bike - 4 hours, 30 minutes
Run - 45 minutes
Total hours - 9 hours (or whatever, I can't add)
Plus 4 hours of bike commuting

I Don't Know What Week This Is: Starting Over

It's been hard. Really hard. To get back into it. To feel apart of the team. To want to go to the workouts. To manage a brain that will override any attempt to work out.

Anyways.

What with getting sick right after kick off, then going away for the holiday, then going to Berlin for a long time, then coming back to a challenging work schedule and THEN (to top it all off) getting sick again. I've decided to start over.

Monday is a new day. I will start with swimming. And possible spinning. And go straight through to Friday. With a day off on Saturday. And then starting on Sunday.

Sigh.

Here's to it.
