Last week started out great! I only had three days of work before a much needed scheduling break of one whole week! I was ready to go and then...
Monday
Rest day.
Tuesday
Did a spin workout in the morning and then headed down to BAC to do some swimming. I can't express how awesome it is to be able to swim outside in the middle of February/March and it's sunny! And even if it isn't sunny it's still possible being that its about 60 degrees here.
Wednesday
I totally didn't run. I hate it so much that it is just that easy to wake up and be like, nah. Of course this has to change asap since I only have 6 months of training before my race! Woah! That is sneaking up on me! Later that night, while sleeping, I woke up in the middle of the night with the worst pain on the right side of my chest. If it had been on my left side I woulda thought it was a heart attack. The pain was that bad and that scary. I somehow managed to fall back asleep until 9am.
Thursday
I called Dr. Rabbetz, my chiropractor, and he got me in first thing. I just thought I pulled a muscle but it turns out one of my ribs came out of alignment! I didn't know they could do that! He popped it back in but boy, did that hurt! Why did it happen? He says that Western Medicine says that it's because I had a weakness there to begin with, my swim workout the day before and my bad posture. He also said that Eastern Medicine says that it's because of a broken heart. That anything that happens in the chest area has to to do with emotions of the heart. Well, I won't go into details but I would say that was a pretty accurate diagnosis. Of course, now I can't work out. He said I could still swim, though. I was nervous because my friend Jess was in town and we had a hike planned on Friday. He said I could still do the hike but be careful. If i slipped and fell on the trail, that they'd be carrying me out of there. Yikes!
Friday
Picked Jess up and we headed to the Pelican Inn in Marin. From there we climbed up the Dias ridge trail, over the Miwok trail and down on the Redwook Creek trail. It was a beautiful day. We talked girl talk the whole way and then had a great lunch at the Inn.
Saturday
I went to the team workout with intentions of swimming but as I got in my car, I did a weird fidget movement and I felt something pulling in my chest. I decided not to swim. Instead I rode with Coach Dave in the SAG vehicle during the bike ride and then stood on deck for the swim. I left before the end to meet my other friend in town for lunch at the Ferry Building. Oh, but not before I got a ticket for going through a red light. Ugh. That just kills me. I mean, it's not like I purposefully went through the red light. I just happened to be on the tail end of a line of traffic going through the intersection and when I looked up at the light I was like, crap. And of course there was a copper in traffic he turned the corner and got right behind me. I sat there for minutes just praying as they sat behind me doing nothing. Then as soon as traffic moved they turned their lights on. Damn! You know they did that on purpose.
Sunday
I didn't do much today but did meet up with the Ironteam 2009 staff for a little dinner party. My chest was still feeling twangs here and there. I plan on taking Monday off as usual, and then start back in again on Tuesday. I also have a follow up with Rabbetz to see if I am good to go!
