And then I read Zack's blog and found out that the pool lappage at IVC is SHORTER than at Koret. At each length ,when I got to the wall, I was totally not out of breath in any way and felt so proud of myself. But now it's only because the distance wasn't as great. Sucks.
Sunday
The sun was out and shinning which was great for like a minute. One length down the pool and I am breathing to the side where the building is and then the length back I am breathing to the side of the giant ball of blinding fire in the sky. It made me a little disoriented. Well, disoriented in the sense that I was trying to look anyplace BUT directly at the sun when I came out to breath which had me doing this wild-eyed-crazy seizure eye movement thing. Then I got nauseous. That's my biggest thing, man. Trying to not get sick in the pool. I get soooooo gross feeling. Like I am gonna yak everywhere. However, having a bottle of Gatorade on the wall helps a lot.
So we swam drills for an hour. I was in the lane with the slow kids, which is just fine because well, I AM slow and because I don't have to kill myself to keep up with the mediums.
Afterwards we hopped out and went to change for our bike ride. Honestly, I really don't get what the big deal about being naked in front of other women is all about. I walked into the locker room and people are showering with their suits on and not taking them off until they are out of the shower and huddled under a towel. The first thing I want to do is get that stupid, cold suit off and the last thing I want to do is try to be modest when you're wrenching super tight spandex up and down a wet body
Now I am gonna complain about hair washing. I really don't feel the need to wash my hair with shampoo after I get out of the pool KNOWING that I am just going to be getting on a bike in 20 minutes and then riding for 3 hours. In fact, I don't even think I used soap on my body. I just whipped the suit off, rinsed and then got dressed.
Now I am gonna complain about underwear under bike shorts. Why would anyone do this? I realize its a preference, but the thought of having VPL's in the already unflattering bike shorts AND introducing the possibilty of having something else down there to cause chaffing is just too much.
The bike ride was AWESOME! I went off with the pro group again, for a 36 miler. It was our usual route of the Lucas Valley Death Hill and down the other side to the little porta-potty turnaround except 6 more miles were added on. You may remember last week how I had to (humiliatingly) get.off.my.bike. and eat a snack so I could make it up the rest of the way? Well, Sunday? I zipped right up it! It still was hard but once I realized that I passed the place where I stopped last week I was stoked. Then the best part is zipping down the other side. That is what I love about biking. The hills can be so hard. You are using all your energy. Your legs burn. Your lungs burn. You can't catch your breath. You feel like you will fall over...then you get to the top and zip down and you forget how 5 minutes ago your life was sucking.
I got to ride with the most awesome Jen, who is in my mentor group, for almost the whole way. I really like her. And its the best to be able to chat with someone. I lost her tho on the way back when we got to the top of the death hill and I stopped to grab a bar out of my bag and she didn't know and kept going.
The day was so great, and warm-ish. No long tights or long sleeves. The cows and horses were out, which makes me yell MOOOO or HORSEY! at everyone I pass. Sadly, I also saw two dead deer on the side of road at different parts. One in a ditch thru the amazing redwoods we have to pass and another just all twisted at the base of a guardrail. : ( That just breaks my heart.
The ride took me almost 3 hours? I'm not really sure since I still don't have any kind of sports watch, but I left around 9:30am and got back close to 12:30pm. Then I hopped in my car and couldn't get home fast enough. I was so looking forward to laying on my couch.
Saturday
I totally skipped the Captains Run at Lake Merced. It was suggested I lay off the running because of my shins so instead, I slept in (yay!) and went to the gym to do the core workout that Maureen taught me and then to do my PT for my knee/leg. Then I did something that was so foreign to me...I went food shopping! I haven't been in so long. Aside from the random, last minute trips to Trader Joe's for Cliff Bars and to my mercado for cheap veggies. It was so nice to have a whole Saturday to myself where I wasn't dashing off to drive 30 miles to exercise for 4 hours and then coming home so exhausted where all I wanna do is nap.
